Avatar systems is taking an approach to robotics in warehousing and manufacturing that borrows from the experience of self-driving cars; The system will initially learn from human operators, relying on human operators less and less as time goes on and the system becomes more autonomous and competent at performing certain tasks.
Avatars human operators will be located in parts of the world where the hourly wage is relatively less expensive than in the United States. Customers supply training materials on how tasks should be performed. Avatar's remote teleoperators perform the tasks in conjunction with onsite robots.
The labor crunch in warehousing, manufacturing, and materials handling is worsening due to demographic trends. A solution like this that does not rely on 100% automation is more likely to succeed than the alternative.
